HUMBERTO PILOTO

..." I almost made it on my raft to the American coast, when I was picked up by the Navy and taken to the Guantanamo Bay Base"... It is at Guantanamo Bay that the rest of the world begins to see the paintings of Humberto Piloto, who tried to flee Cuba on a boat that he and four other friends had made.

Once in Guantanamo Bay, the paintings were greatly admired by the personnel there, and "it was the military people on the base that would provide the paint, brushes and canvases for me so that I could paint. The creative level going on in Guantanamo Bay is something that the world should know about, and it was at the base where I further reflected on my future."

Humberto Piloto received his formal training at a local art school in La Habana, Cuba. There he received most of his training in different techniques of the Plastic Arts. A graduate of the Polytechnic Institute for Industrial Design in Cuba, Mr. Piloto's paintings have been in display at diverse art galleries in Panama, Cuba and in the New York State area. He has continued painting since his arrival in the United States in 1994, and hopes to continue to study art. Mr. Piloto's goal is to one day own an art gallery where he can present the works of other artists who like to express their thoughts and feelings and communicate them to the public.
